Our Story
The Grosvenor has undergone a makeover, no longer is it just a hotel, now with the TGB Restaurant & Bar, Gaming lounge, and 3 brilliant Conference Rooms, ensure that The Grosvenor is the place to stay, dine and be meet in a modern and stylish fashion that still evokes the past that this illustrious historic building has.
Affectionately known as the "Grand Old Lady of the South", the Grosvenor Hotel is very much a part of Timaru's history with ornate styling dating back to the last century. The Grosvenor, with its foundation stone being laid in 1875 has a very long and prolific history. The hotel got off to a rough start, as shortly after the hotel was completed it burnt down. The façade you see today comes after the rebuilding in 1915. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has stayed twice giving the hotel its well-known pedigree.
Did you know The Canterbury Rugby Football Union was formed at The Grosvenor on July 26th 1879?
Great hotel which allowed our dogs to stay with us.
We have two dogs, a golden retriever and collie. We booked this hotel as we were just spending one night in Timaru and leaving early the next day.
The staff were friendly, room service was great and reasonably priced. The hotel room was very clean and tidy. Would definitely stay here again in the future.
